UNIVERSITY SERVICE

I have served as acting Head of Department of Mathematics & Computer Sciences (for periods in 1999, 2000, 2001) and as Deputy Dean (Student Matters) of the Faculty of Science & Agriculture (September 2001 –August 2002). I was the coordinator for the M.Sc. in Computer Science for several years.

Over the years, I have served on served on several University and Faculty Committees, including Appointments, Assessment and Promotions, Campus Committee for Exams, Joint Consultative Committee, UWI News, Faculty Prize Giving, and Faculty Strategic Planning. I have served as a mentor in the UWI mentorship program.

I was a member (2002) of the Review Panel for the quality assurance review of the Computer Science program at Cave Hill, UWI.

Other PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Founding member of the ELearning research Group at The University of the West Indies. This is a research and development group concerned with several aspects of Instructional Technology. Our current focus is on Learning Objects Repository and Learning Content Management Systems. One of the projects is the development of Burrokeet, open source software for creation of SCORM compliant Learning Content Packages. www.burrokeet.org

Member (2004) of the NIHERST Committee on Making Maths Easy Grants Scheme.

Member (2001) of the Technical Steering Committee, Town and Country Planning Division, Ministry of Planning and Development -World Bank funded Environmental Impact Assessment Project (development of a Geographic Information System).

Member (2000) of the evaluation team, TIDCO - evaluation of technical proposals for a feasibility study for the establishment of a Science and Technology Park for Trinidad and Tobago.

Consultancy service with the Government of Turks & Caicos Islands – development of the Computer Education Curriculum for the Associate Degree at the Turks & Caicos Islands Community College

National coordinator (1997 -2005) for the International Organization of Women and Mathematics Education.

Member (1994-2000) of the Information Technology Advisory Committee for the NIHERST Information Technology College (now COSTATT). This is a committee which advises on all matters related to the academic programs of the college.

Chairperson (1990-1997) of the Organizing Committee for the Trinidad and Tobago Mathematics Olympiad (TTMO). The Olympiad is organized jointly by The UWI and the Ministry of Education. The Mathematics Olympiad is a major outreach program of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science to Secondary school students of Trinidad and Tobago. The committee is responsible for the National Olympiad as well as this country's representation at the International Mathematics Olympiad. The TTMO activities extend to all the secondary schools throughout Trinidad & Tobago. These include workshops for Mathematics Teachers and Mathematics training for students.

Assistant Editor (1990 -1992) for the Journal of Combinatorics, Information and System Sciences. This is an international journal publishing papers in Combinatorics/Coding Theory, Information Theory and Mathematical Systems Theory.

Member of the Women and Development Studies Group of The University of the West Indies. One contribution was in the development of the course UC250 - History & Philosophy of Science. I taught the segment, History of Mathematics ( includes a gender perspective).

Member of the Information Technology Professional Society of Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean Academy of Sciences.
